On Sunday 5th of January 2020 at 8pm, the ancient custom of wassailing will place in Tarring Village
Last year in 2019, the weather was crisp and dry – just perfect for this annual event. As in previous years, the Worthing Sompting Morris dancers splendidly provided the mainstay of the wassail torchlight parade along Tarring High Street. We joined residents of Tarring to enjoy this very popular and spectacular event.
This medieval ritual (especially popular in the cider producing regions of England), involves short bursts of noise and singing, to ensure a good cider apple harvest the following year.
In Tarring, the final part of the procession ends around the apple tree in the garden of The Vine Pub in Tarring High Street.
